More and more people of all ages are living with chronic pain. Chronic pain is ongoing pain marked by lasting more than 6 months. At this time in the USA, it is noted that chronic pain affects 50 million people. That is a huge chunk of our population.
While most people automatically turn to their family physician looking for answers and pain relief, western medicine is geared towards treating the symptoms rather than the underlying issues when it comes to pain. This means quelling the pain rather than healing it. This is most often done with the use of painkillers, anti-inflammatory drugs, and muscle relaxers.
All of which do help. They do a great job of masking pain and allowing you to feel better and function. The problem is that once they wear off the pain is right back to where it was. They also come with a risk of addiction as the body gets more and more used to having them, you can become dependent on them.
Over time addiction to painkillers does damage to the body and mind. They really do need to be used carefully as directed and for limited amounts of time. It is more beneficial if they are needed to use them in conjunction with a form of therapy that roots out the underlying issue and helps the body to then heal and correct itself so that it can function normally as intended once again.
Chiropractic is one such modality that can allow your body to really heal. Chiropractic corrects subluxations (misalignments) within the body. It works on the skeletal structure which when properly aligned allows the nervous system to work full force too. Each nerve branch that stems out from the spine connects to a different organ or part of the body. When one is pinched or impinged the electrical signal may be dampened or cut off altogether.
Restoring that electrical impulse to full flow gives life to the body and can correct pain and even disease in some cases.
